Two Day Landscape Photography Workshop

If you are looking for more than 1 days tuition then why not join me on a Two Day Landscape Photography Workshop. I will teach you all the techniques covered on the one day workshop plus, as we have more time at our disposal, introduce you to further techniques and visit lots more stunning locations to allow you more time to consolidate your knowledge and put these techniques into practice.

I don’t run open workshops. I prefer to run 1-2-1 or Small Group 1-2-2 or 1-2-3 Private Tuition for two or three relatives or friends as I find that this ensures a commonality of objectives that can best be achieved. By keeping numbers low, I am able to make sure that everyone gets a fair share of my individual attention, allowing them to get the best out of their time with me.

Two day workshops are based around Keswick on the first day. On the second day,  we can go to any of your preferred locations or you can just leave it up to me as I know many beautiful photographic locations all of which lie within the beautiful Lake District National Park, recently designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Each day will last for approximately seven hours and will be held on consecutives dates of your own choosing. 

On day one there will be a short discussion on techniques and camera set-up with the rest of our time spent entirely on location. We will visit a number of stunning locations each within a short drive of each other and reached by a walk of only a few minutes from my car. This will allow us to concentrate on actual tuition and allow us as much time as possible to put the techniques I have taught you into practice. It will hopefully also allow you as much chance as possible to capture some great images to take away with you! On day 2 we will consolidate the techniques we have already learned together with the introduction of new techniques that will be put into practice in the different locations we visit.

Please note that whilst transport to and from all locations will be supplied, accommodation costs and any travel or camera insurance will be at your own expense.

    • Improve your digital landscape photography by taking creative photographs that really capture the moment

    • Understand your camera and all its functions which will allow you to shoot on manual mode and obtain more professional results

    • Obtain a good understanding of focus points, correct exposure, metering and depth of field issues

    • Use of ND graduated filters to ensure the correct exposure between light skies and darker foregrounds, one of the essentials for good landscape photography

    • Understand how to see photographically and know what works well when photographing landscapes

    • Understand the rules of composition and how to obtain a well balanced and structured image

    • Understand the benefits of shooting in RAW against jpeg

    • Use of 5-stop and 10-stop filters in long exposure photography

    • Understand how to capture multiple images to stitch together to create a panorama

    • Increased opportunities to have me around to answer any additional questions you have whilst putting new these techniques into practice

    • Opportunity to visit additional stunning locations to capture images to build up your portfolio

    • Your own digital SLR camera. I can lend one of you, free of charge, a Canon EOS 5D Mark 3, lenses and filters if required

    • Spare batteries if you have them

    • A good supply of memory

    • Any lenses you have

    • A tripod if you have one but I can supply two if necessary

    • Warm and weather-proof clothing and boots is a must as the weather can be changeable

    • Notebook and pencil (unless you have a good memory!). Please note, however, that comprehensive course notes will be provided for all of you to take away.

    • A pair of Wellies as one of the venues we go to cam be a little wet !!

    • Please bring a snack if you require one

  • Hi Martin

    Had a great two day workshop with you on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. Weather was perfect and the locations we visited spectacular. Nice to know that there are so many places where you can still escape the crowds if you know where to find them.

    I learned so much over the two days and can now go forward with a new found confidence that has re-ignited my passion for photography. I'll be back later in the year to capture those great lakeland autumn colours.

  •  I have just completed a thoroughly enjoyable 2 day photography workshop with Martin Lawerence. Martin's knowledge of landscape photography is exceptional. He teaches with great enthusiasm and passion. I learnt so much from how to set my camera up. He talked about all the camera functions from Manual control, focus, ISO and White Balance, how to compose a perfect landscape image in the most amazing locations. Martin is an extremely nice guy who I found easy to get on with. If your looking for a professional,friendly workshop look no further than Martin Lawerence. He also has an awesome knowledge of The Lake District.

  • Hi Martin

    Just wanted to say thanks again for a fantastic experience again yesterday. I think you have helped me find another level in my photography journey. My only disappointment was that the old legs had difficulty keeping up (other Jim's I mean ha ha !!) I have attached my favourite shot of the day. Absolutely delighted with this one of Rydal Water. It was worth the trip from Glasgow on it's own.

  • Me and my mum booked a landscape photography class with Martin on the 4th of October. Unfortunately the weather on that day was not ideal but Martin continued to give us the best option for the photography class, so we did some more photography on the 5th of October instead, which was way more sunny.
    Martin is a very friendly tutor and explains very well, he made us understand the utmost fundamentals of landscape photography and interesting techniques using ND filters and the big stopper. I can definitely apply this to my photography skills to further enhance my landscape photography. He also explained the use of Photoshop and post processing after taking pictures very well also. So I definitely recommend everyone taking a class with Martin, he’s a great professional photographer.

  • My husband and I booked a 2-day photography course with Martin in the Lake District and we weren’t disappointed. Martin’s style of tutoring is friendly and relaxed and he is so enthusiastic about imparting his considerable technical knowledge and ensuring that you have a good experience. He quickly understood our level of photographic knowledge and what we wanted to achieve and tailored the 2-days accordingly. 

    Martin’s knowledge of the local area was invaluable, especially as we had inadvertently booked during half term so it was very busy, however, he managed to find places that were empty/very quiet so we could take our time and get some great images.

  • Hi Martin,

    We just wanted to drop you a note to say thanks for a fantastic course on Thursday. Both Helen and I gained a lot from your teaching and enjoyed the experience to boot. Your friendly and open approach, backed up by in depth knowledge has given us both the confidence to switch to manual on a permanent basis from now on and make better use of the cameras we have. 

    Your tips on composition and correct approach to focusing have resulted in us changing the way we look at our existing pictures and potential shots in our landscapes. Helen was very impressed with your people skills, as she is normally cautious about meeting new people, but felt completely relaxed on the course within a very short space of time.

    I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we come back for another session at some point to further build on what you have shown us.
