The Cumbria Floods

I was up in Keswick last weekend to give two courses that I had scheduled over the weekend which I had, of course, to cancel as conditions were just unbelievable. It was really frightening to see first hand the devastation that had been caused by so much rain. It had to be seen to be believed how high Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite actually were and what the sheer force of the water coming out of them down the rivers had done to buildings and bridges. It will be a long time before this area has fully recovered.
I took the image below, which you can find in the Lakeland & Scottish Panoramics Category in the Shop section, from the summit of Latrigg on the morning of Thursday 19th November the day after the floods were at their worst. You can see clearly how Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite have met up through the flooded fields.
My sympathy goes out to anyone affected in any way by what has happened.
