Buttermere fells from Dale Head col

July 29th 2009

At last a day when the sun shone and we could get out and do some walking and I could get images of the fells with the tops showing not shrouded in rain clouds as they have been for most days lately.
We set off from Little Town and walked up by Newlands Beck towards Dale Head. Near the head of the valley we took the old zig zags of the Dale Head miner’s path up to the old ruined mine. Unfortunately that’s where the path ended and the person who wrote our guide book was sadly misguided to think in went up to Dale Head col. We climbed straight up a very steep bank to reach the col but it was worth it for the view over Buttermere from Red Pike on the right to Scafell Pike on the left.
We then climbed up HIndscarth and along the ridge finally dropping steeply down Scope End. A fabulous walk and a real red letter day for photographs in the fabulous light. Next day it was back to the rain again as usual.
I stitched a couple of images together to make this panorama using Photomerge in Photoshop Elements.
