Scale Force, Crummock Water

July 19th 2009

Scale Force, Crummock Water is the highest waterfall in the Lake District with a single drop of 170 ft. It lies at the end of a short but rocky path from Buttermere. Because I wanted to use a slow shutter speed and also because it was July I had to restrict the amount of light into the camera. I therefore used a 0.3 neutral density filter which allowed me to shoot at about a third of a second.  If you shoot at too lower speed the ‘milkiness’ which you are looking for can turn into pure white and the effect has gone.

Technical details

Canon EOS 5D, canon ‘L’ series 24-105mm lens, 1/3 sec @ f22, ISO 50 0.3 Neutral Density Lee filter
