Late afternoon storm, Keswick from Latrigg Summit

February 2nd 2009

It was one of those wintery days you get in the Lake District that you think you may as well stay at home, but as the day went on the weather started to change for the better. I said to my wife Sheila, that if the storm broke before the sun set then the cloud formation could be quite spectacular over the Derwent Fells. I set of for the summit of Latrigg with waterproof gear in hand hoping for something special. It was an image I had wanted to get for quite some time and now the opportunity had arisen. I wanted to take a series of three photos across the Derwent fells with Keswick in the foreground which I could then ‘stitch’ together to make a panorama. I set up my gear and waited. Luckily the storm broke just as the sun was setting giving this superb view over Keswick.  I quickly fired off several shots remembering to keep the tripod horizontal and the exposure constant between all three images. The result is what you see, one of my best panorama shots of an area of the Lake District I love so much.
