Frosty evening at Glenfinnan Monument

January 8th 2009

I think this is the best of a trio of photographs I took when the conditions for photography were superb. The low cloud and mist on the mountains in the background were also quite special. We were just returning from a trip to Mallaig when we past the Glenfinnan monument. It was one of the most spectacular sights I’ve ever seen. The sun had just set and the mist was just starting to appear above Loch Sheil. The frost was still on the trees and the loch was frozen in many areas around the shore. The small island close to the loch was also covered with frost which gave a fantastic back drop to the image. This has got to be one of the most dramatic places I’ve photographed and one that I will hopefully return to in the not to distant future.
