Early Morning clouds in the Newlands Valley from the path to Catbells

October 4th 2008

Sometimes you just have to trust your own instincts. This was one of those occasions when I thought that the mist outside my window was only low lying and that if I climbed above it I could get one of those images we all dream of - a classic temperature inversion. I set off for Catbells hoping for such an image.  The conditions were very slippery with frost still covering the path. As I gained height, the mist started to break and a carpet of cloud and mist lay beneath me completely encircling the whole area from Blencathra in the east to the Newlands Valley in the west. It’s hard to do the scene justice but hopefully I’ve captured the Catbells and the Newlands Valley gracefully appearing above the clouds.
