Scotland - Isle of Skye
Kilt Rock
November 25th 2008
The road up the east coast of the Isle of Skye from Portree takes you along a coast marked by spectacular rock scenery. Best of all is Kilt Rock, part of a series of 180ft high sea cliffs where the massive columns of dolerite have the appearance of pleats in a tartan kilt & traditionally form the basis of the Skye tartan pattern. There is also a waterfall tumbling sheer to the pebbled shore below. There is a viewpoint just off the road from where this image was taken. The drop over the railings to the sea down below makes you feel quite giddy!
