Boxing Day snow on Blencathra from Castlerigg Stone Circle

December 26th 2007

Having waited for snow all year it eventually came on Boxing Day of all days when everyone should be at home enjoying Christmas with their families. I managed to get a few hours with my camera and headed straight for the famous Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick. As it was Boxing Day it was fairly quiet so I was able to take a few photographs of the stone circle with Blencathra behind it. Although it was still very early,  it was obvious that people had already been there before me as many footprints were clearly visible in the snow. What makes this image for me is the cloud formation hanging over the top of Blencathra and the way that the sun has just lit up Halls Fell ridge.
