It's a dogs life above the clouds on the footpath to Catbells summit

February 4th 2007

Extremely low lying cloud meant that visibility was down to less than 100yds, but there was a strange luminescence in the air.  I began to climb up Catbells and at about 1000ft I came out of the clouds and into brilliant sunshine. It was a classic case of temperature inversion. It’s only the second one that I’ve encountered.
Another friendly photographer lent me his reluctant sheep dog to pose for a photograph. I think you can see if you look closely how anxious he is to get away.
A customer asked me if I had this image with a Red Setter instead of the Border Collie. She seems surprised when I didn’t.
