Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks, Buttermere

June 1st 2007

I set my alarm for 4:30 am on the promise of fantastic weather the next day. I arrived at Buttermere just as dawn was breaking and, in the many years that I’ve been photographing this area, have never seen such perfect reflections. There was not a single breath of wind and the surrounding fells of Fleetwith Pike, Haystacks and the High Stile Range were mirrored in the lake. I fought my way through the undergrowth to a place where an old broken fence would give me a lead into the photograph. Resisting the ‘headless chicken’ syndrome, I stayed put at Buttermere for a few hours and took about 100 shots at various sites around the lake.

This image in particular is one of my favourites.
