Memories on the Wall
Dawn Display, Rydal Water
October 1st 2004
I love to photograph swans. There’s something about the graceful way that they move across the water that fascinates me.
I’d passed Rydal Water on my way up through the Lakes to Keswick and seen this pair of swans together there. I got up really early the next day and made my way back to the lake. I had this picture in my mind of the female swan in the classic pose with the male displaying in front of her. I set up my tripod, focused on them and waited. I lost count of how many shots I took trying to get the image that was in my mind, but finally it came. An added bonus was the ripples that enclose them both perfectly.
I’m very proud of this image. It’ been much admired and has outsold any other image that I’ve taken before or since.
