Bluebells at White Moss Common, Grasmere

May 13th 2004

This was one of the first images that I sold professionally. It sells as well today as it did then.

There’s something about bluebells that everyone loves when they appear in April or May which is why they were recently voted as Britain’s Favourite Flower. The smell is so fantastic as you walk through them. The bell-shaped, deep blue flowers on a tall stem often grow so closely together that they form a unique carpet - one of nature’s most stunning displays. The UK has the finest bluebell carpets in the world and those at Whitemoss Common between Grasmere and Rydal Water certainly form one of them.
