Location: From Ambleside take the A593 (Coniston) for 3 miles, turning right at Skelwith Bridge onto the B5343. After 2 miles turn left into Elterwater Village.
The village of Elterwater is situated at the head of the Great and Little Langdale valleys. It lies a mile from the lake of the same name and is flanked by bracken clad heathland and the magnificent backdrop of the rugged Langdale Pikes. At it’s centre is the quaint old Britannia Inn which is surrounded by a handful of shops. It is the starting point for many walks in the area and, in particular, the pleasant walk down by the River Brathay and through the meadows to Skelwith Bridge.
You can get some great images along this walk especially from the tarn looking across to the Langdale Pikes through the reeds.
