Locations in the South Lakes
This is the second in a series of guides detailing some of my favourite locations for taking photographs in the English Lake District.

Waterhead Pier

Windermere Lake ends a mile short of Ambleside at Waterhead. Steamers and launches sail daily throughout the year between the pier here and Bowness. The sunsets here can be particularly spectacular.

Clappersgate Bridge

Clappersgate Bridge is an attractive packhorse bridge which lies across the River Brathay close to Ambleside. The river is heavily wooded and great for autumn colour shots.

Loughrigg Tarn
(OS Grid Reference NY 343-041)
Loughrigg Tarn, a tarn of outstanding beauty set amongst attractive rolling wooded fells, is one of Lakeland’s hidden treasures. The shallow waters at the tarn’s edge are covered in water lilies in Summer and there is a great view towards the Langdales.

Elterwater
(OS grid reference NY 328-047)
Elterwater’s name comes from the small tarn by which it sits and the Norse word ‘elter’ meaning swan. The village is nestled amidst the imposing mountains of the Langdale Valley.

Slater Bridge, Little Langdale
(OS grid reference NY298-031)
Slater Bridge is an old pack house bridge in Little Langdale. The bridge is located just downstream of Little Langdale Tarn on the River Brathay and was built to connect the hamlet of Little Langdale with the slate quarries in the Tilberthwaite area.

Blea Tarn and Blea tarn House, Little Langdale

Blea Tarn is in a beautiful setting with a dramatic backdrop of the Langdale Pikes . The tarn is located at top of the pass between Great Langdale and Little Langdale.
